Organise the office and improve the design
Friday, January 30th, 2009A main feature of good office design is functionality. However far too often we find that our offices are packed full with machines, office equipment, supplies and paper that has accumulated over a period of time.
Very often you have to even move things out of the way before you can get to your office desk. Plus the paperwork all over the desk is just an eyesore. Looks like it’s time to get the office organised!
You can have the really great décor and up to the minute office design but unless there is some sort of organisation it is a bit of a waste of time.
These few ideas hopefully can help you to sort out your desk and office space to enable a more efficient working environment.
1.If there are furniture obstacles in your office then move them.
2.Clear your desktop
That is looking so much better already! Now start to sort out the office by taking a look at your office desk and decide what really has to be there. Your computer obviously and definitely your phone.
Then take a look at what is left asking yourself “Does it really have to be there?†If it’s not something that you use every day to make your life easier, then this is surely the time to deal with it. The papers that you have been meaning to file away, do it now!
Office suppliers have all kinds of plastic trays and storage equipment including those that are designed to fit into a desk drawer. Use these to get your office organised. Then all those loose pens and paper clips have a place to go and when you want something, you’ll be able to find it.
Trays are ideal for your “inbox†and “outboxâ€. They’ll help you keep your office desktop neat and save some space.
3) Get it off your desk.
Make more working space. For instance, your printer or copier should not be on your desk. Investing in a printer stand will keep it within a sensible distance, free extra desk space and perhaps get some shelf storage space for accessories such as printer paper.
A small table placed next to your desk could add an elegant touch to your office design and serve as an extra working area just as long as it is a suitable height.
4) Give your eyes a rest
It is recommended that you should take screen breaks regularly and to help stop strain it is a good idea to try to focus your eyes on a distant object or a pleasant view. If in fact there is’nt anything much worth looking at then perhaps you could add a painting or poster to the office.
These are just a few ideas to make your working environment a more acceptable place to be. In turn this must surely make us more productive as far as our work output is concerned
